Reno South Rotary collaborates with local breweries and distributors for Oktoberfest event and fundraiser

This is a press release and includes no original reporting.

The Reno South Rotary will host an inaugural Oktoberfest celebration offering beer, wine, Bavarian food, live music and silent auction supporting the club’s Most Improved Student Program benefiting high school students at all nineteen Washoe County high schools. The event is on Saturday, October 18 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Wolf Run golf course in south Reno.

The Most Improved Student Program is one of the major programs sponsored by Reno South Rotary and is unique in its recognition of students who have overcome obstacles and position themselves for college or education in various professional trades. Each year, two students from each Washoe County High School are chosen for overall improvement in not just grades, but social skill, community service and those who have surmounted particular hardships in their personal and family lives.  Selected students receive scholarships and attend a hosted luncheon for themselves and family or mentors.

For the Oktoberfest event, regional breweries will offer unlimited tastings of seasonal brews to attendees. Announced breweries include Pigeon Head Brewery, Great Basin Brewery (2014 winner of third-place best milk stout at Great American Beer Festival), Brasserie St. James ( 2014 winner of best mid-sized brewery at GABF and first place best saison/farm ale) and Lassen Ale Works as well as wine pourings from Grace Patriot Winery.  Wolf Run will present a food buffet from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring sausage links and bratwurst from the Sausage Factory in Carson City in addition to beer breads and pretzels from Bavarian World among other German specialties. Live oompah music and contests will entertain the crowd throughout the night.

“The Reno South Rotary is looking forward to a terrific community fall event celebrating outstanding local beers and food while benefiting a very important cause,” said Adam Heuer, president of Reno South Rotary. “We hope for this event to be the beginning of an annual tradition for Reno and continue to build both community support and awareness of the Most Improved Student Program.”
