Celebrate local craft beer with brewery tours, special tastings, tap takeovers and beer dinners during Reno Craft Beer Week
Brought together by a love and passion for craft beer, a group of pubs, restaurants and breweries in and around Northern Nevada rose to champion the first ever Reno Craft Beer Week. The week will feature a variety of craft beer related events from Saturday, April 18 to Saturday, April 25.
Kurt Hoge, local beer enthusiast, owner of Reno Type and promoter of the annual Backwash homebrew tasting for Project Great Outdoors, was among those who first formed the idea and took responsibility for leading it. Many people talked about Reno Craft Beer Week for several years and now it will finally happen as Reno matures as a craft beer town.
“We all see the success and community of our local brewers and beer enthusiasts in the Reno area and thought, ‘Why can’t we bring a celebration of beer to the Reno-Sparks area?’ This thought process led to the creation of Reno Craft Beer Week, a week-long celebration of community, friends and beer,” Kurt said.
Hoge joined with Drinkable Reno and local public relations professional Don Vetter of Vetter PR to lead the charge. Initial meetings with local brewers, ale advocates, pubs and restaurants set the stage for a successful event.
“They all agreed that it was about time we have our own craft beer week,” Hoge said.
The current list of participating breweries, pubs and restaurants is more than 15 and continues to grow.
The annual Backwash homebrew competition is already set as one key event for Reno Craft Beer Week at Reno Aces Stadium Saturday, April 25, 2015. Backwash brings together the top regional homebrewers for a taste off of their finest ales, ciders and barley wines. Backwash is the celebration of hops for Project Great Outdoors — a volunteer cast of outdoor guides, educators and community leaders — who help change the lives of troubled youth by giving them a healthier outlook on life through outdoor activities and adventures.
Many venues will collaborate or host craft beer events for Reno Craft Beer Week. So far, tap takeovers, brew tours, beer tastings, beer dinners, rare beer releases and a host of other events are already scheduled with more to come.
As Reno Craft Beer Week events develop over the next four months, Drinkable Reno will be there with all the information you need to plan your week, buy tickets and find out what’s happening.
