porterbeer ice cream, Earl Grey britishbeer, pop-up restaurants, Reno Bike Project and more, more, more!
IceCycle Creamery, the first bicycle-based ice creamery in Reno, will serve porterbeer ice cream and cherry Merlot sorbet at the second annual Positively 4th Street this Saturday, June 14. Positively 4th Street is an open-air event centered around the Reno Bike Project and will include a beer garden, art events and pop up restaurant.
“It’s a way to beautify the area and show everybody in town the potential of fourth street,” said Scott Emond, owner of Under the Rose Brewing Co. “You put a couple of trees in here and it’s a really nice area. The stigma can be overcome easily. “
IceCycle Creamery owner Jeremy Demarzo will sell 4 and 8-oz pre-packaged ice cream cups from his custom-made refrigerated IceCycle.
“Under the Rose’s porterbeer is like a chocolate beer,” Jeremy said. “I’ve done chocolate ice cream with beer before but this one has a lot of chocolatey undertones so it’s just the beer.”
The recipe starts with a half-gallon growler of porterbeer, half a gallon of milk and one gallon of cream. The beer provides the flavor for everything, “It’ll just be porterbeer ice cream,” he said, mixed with chopped hazelnuts.
“They brought by some samples and their stuff is fantastic!” Scott said.
Jeremy said the city created a special permit for the business since it doesn’t fit normal rules of brick and mortar or food trucks and is the only one that exists like this in Reno. He can take part in special events but can’t change from the street facing side or alley ways so you’ll have to find the IceCycle and stake out a spot.
IceCycle Creamery will serve
- porterbeer Ice Cream: Under the Rose Brewing’s porterbeer mixed with chopped hazelnuts and turned into ice cream
- Cherry Merlot Sorbet: Chopped cherries and Merlot wine mixed into a sorbet
- Coconut Mojito: Dairy free, made with coconut milk, lime juice, lime zest and fresh mint
- Cookie Monster: A vanilla base with Homage’s cookies mixed in
- Fresh Orange Sherbet: If there’s time, Jeremy will also make an orange sherbet
Recommendation: Get a porterbeer from Under the Rose, then carry it over to the IceCycle and plop a ball of porterbeer ice cream into your glass. Instant double-porterbeer float. You’re welcome.
Beer garden
Under the Rose’s beer garden will seat folks outside at the back of the brewery for people to relax or play games. Servers will run drinks from the bar to the back while two food trucks, Electric Blue Elephant and Full Belly Deli, keep people fed. Full Belly Deli, originally from Truckee, recently opened this food trailer.
At the pop-up restaurant in Cuddleworks, Under the Rose will serve a citrus saisonbeer for brunch and Earl Grey britishbeer for dinner. Scott added “super high-concentrated” tea to the britishbeer. He said it doesn’t come through very pronounced and rounds out the beer nicely.
The afternoon will include kids activities, such as dunk tanks, petting zoo and kids’ art. Later in the evening String Beings four-piece orchestra will perform in the back alley.
Positively 4th Street will also host a backpack drive for Volunteers of America. Operation Backpack matches homeless children with school supplies and backpacks for the coming school year. The Reno Bike Project will offer a one-year membership and Under the Rose will offer dollar off beer specials to anyone who donates a backpack or school supplies during the event.
