Make your own Terrace Lounge-style mint julep

MINT JULEP
5 to 6 mint leaves + top leaves of 2 mint sprigs
1 teaspoon sugar or 1 sugar cube
3 ounces bourbon
Old fashioned glass or the classic silver beaker

Place the mint leaves in the bottom of your pre-chilled glass or beaker. Add sugar and crush lightly with a muddler. Careful not to crush and tear mint, you just want to release the natural oils in to the sugar! Pack the glass well with crushed ice. Pour a generous 3 ounces of bourbon over the ice. At Terrace Lounge, they use Woodford Reserve. The spicy rye gives the classic southern cocktail a bit of an edge! Using an elongated bar spoon, begin to mix the bourbon and ice while also gently turning your glass by the base. This will create a lovely frost on the outside of your glass. Pack more ice on to your glass, creating a mound of crushed ice. Take your mint sprigs and gently slap against your hand to release the oils, place the mint in your mound of crushed ice to enhance the aroma for the drinker! Enjoy!
